MASS’ Workshop 2015 (Mediterranean Architecture Schools Students’ Workshop) is organized by Süleyman Demirel University and Akdeniz University Architecture Departments for the first time. This event was held from 5-9 May 2015 in Isparta. 50 students from S. Demirel University, 30 students in Akdeniz University, a total of 80 students participated in this event. A main topic of this workshop has been determined as “contemporary addition in the historic context”. Isparta Üzüm Bazaar and Köy Bazaar including two different historic areas have been studied in these studios. Students are divided into two groups and have designed top cover to the streets of these areas. As part of this workshop activity, it is expected to combine students’ researches and theoretical information which students received during the courses of the conservation and restoration. In addition it is hoped to develop conversion skills of design projects. Firstly, lecturers made presentations which about contemporary addition in the historic context and the conservation problems of Üzüm Bazaar and Köy Bazaar. Then, spot detection studies wanted from the students in these areas. At this time to get acquainted with working areas, to observe the problems, to do interviews by the users of these areas with keeping in mind of Conservation Board decisions. Lecturers accompanied to the students in the working areas and provided the environment for discussion for the students could understand the problems of the areas and expectations from them. After the spot detection studies all the lecturers and the students turned to the studios of the University. Lecturers wanted from the students to design projects which brings solutions to the problems and respectful to the historical fabric of working areas. Lecturers revised to the students during the studio studies for their projects could go in the positive ways. Thus, thin border between the conservation and design disciplines of architecture education, has tried to draw with theory - research – application bonds in the minds of students. Thanks to this work “con[1]servation restoration theories” are can’t be understand exactly from the students by just undergraduate education lessons. After this theory period , to make students research and draw in the real areas. Thus, research and practice steps will be completed in the architectural conservation education.
