In the Turkish Republic where the basic notions of modernization process such as rationalization, secularization, being industry-technology centered, were activated by the state, these notions became multi-faceted by encountering local realities and were brought to life within the new spatial models. The agro-livestock settlements are the primer ones of ‘the spatial models of the Republic’, aiming modernization in rural life. This study will concentrate on Eskişehir Stud Farm which is one of the few settlements inherited from Ottoman, attracted some other rural models like “köy enstitüsü” to its own environment and continues its activities as a state-owned property present day. Eskişehir Çifteler Farm has a special place in the agro-livestock settlements some of which were founded in Ottoman Empire but whose main development was realized in Republican Period and which contain production, administration, socialization, residential spaces and present a new search between rural and urban. Within the investigations developed on Eskişehir Stud Farm, the study aims to desipher the transformations created by agro-livestock settlements in the context of the axes of “modernization of the Republic” and “rural development/ communication”. With the discussion on the data, obtained through the field survey and literature search on Eskişehir Stud Farm, it is hoped that the rich spatial knowledge which has been carried from the early Republican Period to present day by the agro-livestock settlements will be made more visible.
