Unlike the common innovation diffusion theories, reverse innovation explores the innovations that emerge from developing countries and extend to developed countries. Such innovations are similar in some respects to disruptive innovations. Both of these innovation theories mainly rely on neglected users with low purchasing power and low expectations from the product, rather than the mainstream audience in developed countries. Turkey is among the developing countries accomodating the referred neglected users, therefore it is important to focus on the reverse innovetion concept. In this study, within the frame of disruptive innovation and innovation concepts, Turkey’s potential for reverse innovation and design’s role in this potential will he discussed through VOLKICAR example.
