Birgi Sandıkoğlu Konağı Restorasyon Uygulaması

Abstract

Inclusion of structures that represent the traditional architecture in everyday life facilitates integration of cultural architectural heritage into modern life. Reuse of idle structures by assigning them new functions is important in terms of cultural continuity of societies. The Sandıkoğlu Mansion that constitutes the scope of this study is an exemplary building for architectural heritage. Sandıkoğlu Mansion (İzmir-Birgi) exhibits the characteristics of Western Anatolian houses. The two-storey architectural heritage, constructed of wooden frame set on a masonry stone system in the outer hall style, dates back to the late 18th century. The restoration process was initiated by the Rectorship of MSGSU on 01.02.2010 with preparation of survey, restitution and restoration projects and submission of these projects to the relevant Conservation Council. The mansion was planned to be used for educational activities by MSGSU, therefore restoration project was prepared accordingly. A maintenance and repair application while preserving the current situation was carried out in the context of restoration principles abiding by the decision of Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture, Supreme Council for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets No:660 dated 05.11.1999. The restoration work that started on 29.11.2016 was comprised of strengthening, completion of missing parts according to original details and preservation of current situation.
