Abstract

For today’s art world, it has been observed that new methods of design show a common tendency of similar behaviours. Plastical and easthetical reflections of these behaviours create a common language of design as well. Trying to be creative, striking and communicational approaches constitute the main basis for this new language of design. This period which can also be named as tendencies after modernism in architecture, is directly linked to the new production and enformation technologies as well as socio-culturel environment. In today’s art environment in which individual tastes are becoming noticable and variety is supported by new production technology, architecture is one of the areas that mostly affected from these tendencies. Thus, architecture after modernism seems to contain theatrical principles as a basic design strategy. On the other hand, baroque style, which had created the strategy of suprising as a design principle, gives us a strong basis in order to examine the main characteristics of this tendency of being communicational in architecture after modernism. Within this context, the typology of these power symbols behind the impetus of being theatrical in architecture is going to be examined. Purpose of this study is to put forward the basic principles of dramatic behaviours and theatrical tendencies of new design strategies, and examine the baroque charasteristcis behind.
