Abstract

As one of the major research area in the field of architecture, housing is mostly included in finance, economy and banking sector rather than construction industry in today’s professional world. The reason of the displacement of house conception is the change of definition and the meaning of the notion in time. A structural element, where user lives a life inside, interpreted as a center of the sense of belonging and personal identity, has transformed an asset which is merchandise for capital increase by its corporate, multipartnered owner. The housing sector in Turkey has experienced this transformation from first hand since 1980s. Examination of the historical development of the residential architecture so far is valuable to identification and to evaluate the current situation of housing production. In this framework, aim of the study is to understand the changes in the residential architecture in Turkey especially after 2000 and to define new actors involved in production process, new kinds of housing supply, new meanings of house and the role of architect in this process.
